Sustainability Assistant

Permanent vacancy / Term time only - 37 hours per week
£23,534 pro rata (£19,772 per annum)


At Barnsley College, we recognise the importance of changing the way we work, and the integral part Education must play in building a sustainable future for the next generation. We have made positive changes to become more sustainable in all aspects of college life, with over 700 members of staff and around 9,000 students making climate conscious adjustments, impacting on the local community. We are now looking to welcome a Sustainability Assistant to join us on our journey and accelerate our goals outlined in our Sustainability Strategy.

This role will be incredibly varied, with no two days the same. Main duties include:
  • Assist with driving the carbon literacy roll-out within the College
  • Delivering support sessions to staff looking to include sustainability within their teaching
  • Gathering data and creating reports based on progress toward College ESD targets
  • Networking with the wider College, Community and External Stakeholders
  • Reporting to and working closely with the Sustainability Officer
  • Working on environmental and sustainability campaigns
  • Analysing data based on progress toward targets in the Sustainability Strategy
  • Engaging with students and delivering ad-hoc climate education sessions 
Additionally, you will be provided with the necessary training and skills required to fulfil any additional requirements of the role.
