Environmental Sustainability Manager - University of Manchester

Managing and reducing the indirect, “Scope 3” carbon emissions is one of the most challenging and critical emerging areas of environmental action.   Tackling direct emissions is not enough if organisations are truly to demonstrate their commitment to action on climate change.

From their world-leading research on numerous sustainability-related themes to teaching and learning with 40,000 students, sustainability is at the core of everything they do at The University of Manchester.

They’re already committed to achieving zero direct carbon emissions by 2038, and critically, within their “carbon budget”.   This year they’ve gone further by setting a target for the Scope 3 emissions of net zero by 2050.  They’ve made a great start on estimating their footprint and planning what they need to reduce it, but there is much more to be done.

They also need to communicate all aspects of the environmental work to the thousands of people who study, work, and feel connected to The University.  They’re proud of their new Environment Strategy, and want staff and students to know what they’re up to and how they can contribute.   Engagement and communications is critical to the work going forward.

They now have a rare opportunity for a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to join their Environmental Sustainability team.  They’re looking for someone who cares deeply about environmental matters and can use that passion to make sector-leading progress on their Scope 3 footprint and share their story.

They would love to hear from you if you can help take their environmental ambitions to the next level through commitment, energy and skill.
