Green Gown Awards 2011 shortlist announced

We are delighted to announce the shortlist for this year’s annual Green Gown Awards 2011, recognising the exceptional initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK to become more sustainable.

More than 240 entries were received across the 13 categories and a judging panel comprising further and higher education sectors were called upon to make some very difficult decisions. The standard of entries this year was truly exceptional and underlines how many excellent initiatives are being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK to become more sustainable.

With sustainability moving up the global agenda, the Awards have become established as THE most prestigious recognition of sustainability excellence within the further and higher education sectors, as well as the environmental sector.

Now in their seventh year, the Awards recognise the exceptional initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK to become more sustainable. They provide the sector with benchmarks for excellence and are well respected by governments, funding councils, senior managers, academics and students. Their value is reflected in an increased number of applications this year, more than any other year.

Winners from the shortlisted entries will be announced at the Awards ceremony which will take place on 3 November 2011 at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London, which provides an ideal setting for the Green Gowns' celebrations. Guests will be treated to a drinks reception and a three course dinner before the winners are announced by a celebrity host.
