Evening panel event - Universities Against Modern Slavery Alliance - UAMSA - Inaugural Conference

UAMSA is a new association between universities aiming to bring the issue of labour exploitation in supply chains into the public conscious. Academics, university staff, students and Fairtrade business experts will be in attendance. 
 
The conference will be chaired by James Sinclair, an international human rights lawyer, social entrepreneur and PhD candidate here at King's, and our speakers include:
  • Professor Parosha Chandran - Professor of Practice in Modern Slavery Law at King's College London. She is a human rights barrister, a specialist in modern slavery law and a world-leading expert on the law relating to human trafficking for the United Nations , the Council of Europe and Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
  • Professor Kevin Bales - Professor of Contemporary Slavery at the University of Nottingham, co-author of the Global Slavery Index, and was a co-founder and previously president of Free the Slaves.
  • Dr Gabriela Gutierrez-Huerter O - Lecturer in International Management at King's College London. She is currently involved in an inter-disciplinary research project studying institutional complexity and the responses of the UK construction industry to the issue of modern slavery.
  • Professor Deirdre Shaw - Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research (Marketing) at the University of Glasgow. Deirdre’s expertise and interests are focused in the area of consumption ethics. Currently she is working in the areas of sustainable and ethical fashion, modern day slavery, care in consumption and sustainable food.
  • Paul Gerrard - Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Co-op. Paul leads the work of The Co-op Way Policy Committee, a group of people tasked with re-defining the ethical approach to the key issues Co-op faces.
  • Harpreet Paul, UK Representative at Electronics Watch. Harpreet is a solicitor and social justice activist. She has worked at Global Policy Forum Amnesty International, REDRESS (Solicitor and Casework Programme Coordinator), People & Planet (Co-Director: Migrants’ Rights and Workers’ Rights Campaigns & Movement Building).
  • Daniel Morey, Head of Commercial Partnerships at the Fairtrade Foundation
