Sustainability in Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities

Canterbury Christ Church University
6th & 7th July 2016

Part of the CATALYST Conference series:
Advancing Higher Education for Sustainability

It is ten years since Christ Church first started exploring sustainability and its implications for Higher Education. Like many other HEIs it is proud of its achievements and welcomes the opportunity to celebrate and showcase successful sustainability related activity within the sector. However, it is equally cognisant of the challenges and barriers to moving the agenda forward and aims to provide a space where the ‘contested’ ‘confusing’ and ‘critical’ can be explored.

The conference will offer a variety of creative inputs and activities including research paper presentations, interactive workshops, campus tours and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) showcases. The keynote speaker will be Martin Wright of Collectively (https://collectively.org/) and the conference has attracted many contributions from leaders across the sector nationally, which complement our own inputs.

The conference comprises 2 events that need to be booked separately, here https://www.canterbury.ac.uk/about-us/sustainability/sustainability.aspx

Wednesday 6th July: Pre-conference social: Heritage, hops and harmony
5.30-7.30pm St Augustine’s Abbey, Canterbury

Recognising the need to offer time and space for connections, the main conference will be preceded by a preconference social event on the evening of 6th July. Delegates will have the opportunity to explore this inspirational World Heritage Site, enjoy drinks and canapes, live music and to taste Green Chapel Ale brewed from heritage hops grown on the Canterbury campus.
