Inaugural Lecture by Prof Rakesh Kanda followed by light refreshments
Free to attend but prior booking required

We like to assume that our water is clean and safe. But what does it really contain? How does this affect the environment and how safe is our water to drink?

The quality of our water is under threat from new types of pollution due to urbanisation and our ever increasing use of chemicals. While sewage treatment plants exist to eliminate man-made chemicals and natural by-products from our water, increasingly they cannot capture everything.

Brunel University London is at the forefront of research into our ability to detect, identify and remove these chemicals, being awarded the Queen’s anniversary prize for research into this area in 2011. Professor Kanda is the Institute's Professor of Exposome Science, and in this lecture he will outline the advances made over the years in detecting and treating pollutants, and the strategies used to identify the “knowns and unknowns”.
