#LoveOurColleges Day 2 - Digital

About Colleges Week

Colleges Week is a time of celebration and appreciation for the invaluable role that further education institutions play in our society. As we participate in the #LoveOurColleges campaign, which is led by the Association of Colleges, we are delighted to celebrate our members that are making a significant difference to sustainability in the sector. Sustainable practices make colleges stand out and EAUC is proud to showcase that!

The celebrations last for two weeks, from 9th to 22nd October, with each week adopting a different focus. Today's theme is Digital, so who are we featuring?

Does the digital world fit into the sustainability agenda? Are new technologies important in driving a college's positive impact?

Advances in internet connectivity, artificial intelligence and augmented reality have scope to transform campuses and learning into more immersive and more sustainable experiences! Smart buildings, intelligent campuses, and step-change advances across all aspects of a college can give students a richer experience of learning and teaching, and drive innovation beyond the classroom.

Example - Gloucestershire College

Leading a T-Level campaign which embeds sustainability into new learning areas, the College is preparing students for their long-term development as individuals. This includes a Digital Infrastructure course which focuses on problem solving in information security. The curriculum and teaching style offer a broad scope of opportunity to students, including networking, gaining industry experience, and seeing the relationship digital technologies have with environmental change. Example - Askham Bryan College

Transforming education through a digital sustainability lens, the College are developing the campus to be a centre of excellence for mixed reality drawing on virtual, augmented and metaverse technology to improve the student experience. By simulating real world experiences, developing an innovative approach to digital teaching, digital learning, digital assessment, and digital upskilling through its mixed reality environment in all its subjects, which create unique and sustainable learning experiences.
