College Education for Sustainable Development Project

The project addressed ESD activity across the college sector in Scotland and closely aligned to the Scottish Government’s Action Plan for the Second Half of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development: Learning for Change.

The project delivered practical advice and support relating to embedding the principles of Sustainable Development into the curriculum, specifically via:

  • Provision of ESD Workbooks specific to topic areas. To access these workbooks, please see here.
  • The provision of CPD sessions tailored to institutional needs;

  • Engaging with students and student groups;

  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of “Green Weeks” on college campus;

  • Signposting appropriate learning resources in relation to ESD;

  • Working with SQA and curriculum teams to embed ESD into new course provision;

  • Working with the PLDF to ensure the principles of ESD are prioritised in lecturer standards;

  • Supporting the creation of a UN Regional Centre of Expertise (Scotland) to ensure a lasting legacy for ESD in Scotland’s colleges beyond the conclusion of the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development (June 2014).
