About
De Montfort University (DMU) stands out for its comprehensive approach to addressing sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our international standing has been recognised by the United Nations through DMU serving as a Global SDG Hub since 2018, with recently-renewed status as Global SDG Hub for SDG11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. Our key principle is to address sustainability across all core activities, including education, research, civic engagement and estate management. We deliver this through strategic commitment and sustained collaborative working across academic and professional services teams. We ensure that sustainability is embedded in all new strategic priorities: as a core criterion for programme validation in our recent transition to block teaching; as the distinctive feature of our 2025 ‘DMU London’ campus; and a focus for transnational education (TNE) partnerships. DMU’s approach demonstrates that even with limited resources, an ethos of ‘embedding-everywhere’ and multi-year commitment can yield significant impacts across an entire institution.
