Transitions Week: A Genuine Partnership Between Students, Staff and Alumni for Sustainability Engagement

Finalist, Student engagement

About

Transitions Week brings together students, staff and alumni at SKEMA Business School in a true partnership to boost sustainability understanding and engagement across our community. Held every Spring since 2024 on five international campuses, the week combines creative student-led actions with strategic staff support and valuable alumni expertise. Coordinated by the HOPE student association (which brings together multiple clubs for impact-focused initiatives) and the SKEMA Green Club, with active contributions from the SKEMA Alumni Transitions Club, the programme includes hands-on workshops, expert conferences and career fairs. These activities help students develop transferable employability skills such as project leadership, creative communication and responsible management. Backed by the SKEMA Transitions team and reinforced by the 2025 Transitions Act (which embeds transition topics in 100% of our programmes), the Week has engaged thousands of students, hundreds of staff and dozens of alumni while fostering a shared culture of responsibility and agency.

Top 3 learnings

  1. We learned that student-led creative workshops, supported by staff strategy, create far higher engagement than top-down efforts alone.
  2. We discovered that involving alumni with students and staff turns our cultural diversity into powerful global sustainability leadership.
  3. We saw that genuine multi-stakeholder partnership generates unexpected ownership and lasting actions well beyond the formal Week.
