About
Lancaster University declared a climate emergency in in 2020 and committed to the very challenging carbon reduction targets of net-zero from scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2030 and net zero from scope 3 emissions by 2035. The practical implications of achieving these targets were not fully appreciated until operations started to normalise after the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Lancaster has developed and is in the process of implementing projects that should enable it to achieve its net-zero target for scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2028, ahead of its 2030 target year. The ongoing delivery of scope 1 and 2 projects is enabling the University to focus on the development and implementation of plans to reduce scope 3 carbon emissions to net zero by 2035.
