Rosie Wallin

Finalist, Sustainability Champion - Staff Finalist

About

As SDG Lead for Westminster School of Arts (WSA), Rosie was responsible for implementing the Education for Sustainable Development programme and increasing awareness of the SDGs. For staff, Rosie ran training and a workshop on measuring sustainability in the arts. Rosie organised an interdisciplinary Sustainable Seas event for students, including David Attenborough’s ‘Ocean’ and a panel discussion with Extinction Rebellion, Ocean photographer of the year finalist and Surfers against Sewage. She spearheaded the ‘Sustainable Stories’ films where students relate their work to the SDGs, now used in teaching and public promotion on the WSA website. In 2023, prior to becoming SDG Lead, Rosie addressed the lack of sustainability in course curricula at the point of revalidation for BA Fashion Design. She ensured sustainability was part of core curricula at every level of study. She also led the creation of the MA Sustainable Fashion, with the first cohort starting in 2025-26.

Top 3 learnings

  1. We are celebrating best practice is the best way to engage staff and students in sustainability.
  2. We are championing authentic learning, where students need to ‘see it to do it’ and workshops create meaningful engagement
  3. We are building recognition that sustainability initiatives benefit from informal interdisciplinary activities and community building.

What it means to win

We have been proud participants in the Green Gowns for the past few years, and love the opportunity to showcase the brilliant work of our colleagues amongst the brilliant work in the sector.
