The Scottish Wind Technician Education Centre is a transformational green skills initiative established by Ayrshire College to address one of Scotland’s most significant workforce challenges. By developing the next generation of offshore wind technicians, the Centre is supporting economic growth, creating sustainable careers and enabling the transition to a net zero future. Developed through a strategic partnership with Energy Innovation Global (Norway), industry employers and the Erasmus+ T-Shore Centre of Vocational Excellence, the Centre achieved full accreditation in April 2026 and delivers Global Wind Organisation (GWO) accredited training aligned to industry demand. Recognised within Action 4 of Scotland’s Offshore Wind Skills Priorities and Action Plan, the Centre equips learners, career changers and existing workers with the technical, safety and employability skills needed for careers in renewable energy. Through employer co-design, international expertise and industry-recognised standards, it provides a scalable model for workforce development, creating a direct pathway into a work-ready talent pool.
Winning a Green Gown Award would be a powerful endorsement of Ayrshire College’s commitment to developing the skilled workforce needed for a net zero future. It would recognise the innovation and collaboration behind The Scottish Wind Technician Education Centre, raise the profile of the College and its partners, and highlight the vital role colleges play in supporting economic growth, green skills and sustainable careers.
