From Awareness to Action: Student-Driven Sustainability and Community Engagement

Finalist, Sustainability Institution of the Year

About

Easwari Engineering College is a green campus practising sustainability through its green initatives like its sewage treatment and biogas plant. Apart from making the students aware of the environment, it involves creating awareness outside the campus through adopting the Kavalcheri village, Sirukalathur, near Kundrathur. The project provides biogas for the Noon Meal Scheme and a reverse osmosis plant for drinking water in government schools. Students are encouraged to participate in the environmental project and competitions, and in 2025 two environmental projects of civil engineeringwere awarded a Wipro cash prize each for making the ideas into a model. Similarly, the biomedical students got a cash prize in the Planet Action waste Hackathon. The research faculty are consulting on developing a Sewage Treatment Plant for recycling waste water. With a total enrolment of 7,121 students, environmental science and engineering is a mandatory course, ensuring that all graduates are socially conscious and environmentally responsible.
