Experiential learning is fundamental to the courses offered within Environmental Sciences at the University of Derby. We ensure that these experiences provide not only high-quality learning experiences for our students but also deliver civic benefits as well as making a difference to biodiversity within our University, Derbyshire, Staffordshire and further afield. Most of our students aspire to make a difference to environmental protection and species conservation. Rather than just learning about ways they could do it, we have a strong emphasis on learning by doing and benefitting wildlife as we go. Our students can identify the learning journey they have been on and recognise their skills development as they transition to future employees. During their time with us they gain valuable experience carrying out a variety of activities which allow them to develop the necessary practical skills they need when entering the workplace as graduates.
The staff who work on enhancing the curriculum and providing these opportunities work tirelessly and are very passionate about providing students with the best possible opportunities. They deserve to be recognised for the fantastic work they do.
