Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Fieldwork: Removing barriers to outdoor learning and Inclusion in Sustainability
Finalist, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Sustainability
About
Led by the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Glasgow, this project takes a practical, student-informed approach to removing those barriers. It brings together a Code of Practice , co-developed by students and staff, for fieldwork and field courses, a Library of Good Practice, curriculum-integrated menstrual health training through ‘Going with the Flow,’ and a student Field Kit Library.
Together, these linked initiatives move inclusive fieldwork from guidance into everyday practice, helping more students participate confidently in fieldwork, sustainability learning, outdoor education, and future green careers.
Impact
Number of students trained through ‘Going with the Flow’ - 205 in 25/26 and 215 in 27/27.
Number of staff engaged in Code of Practice development – 8.
Estimated number of students participating in field courses annually -205 in 24/25 and 215 in 25/26.
Uptake/use of the field kit library (loans, users, cohorts reached) - Over 30 students per academic year.
