Breaking Barriers in Sustainability: Free Upskilling for 9,000+ Professionals in 100+ Countries

Finalist, Next Generation Learning and Skills

About

Access to high-quality sustainability education remains uneven and often cost-prohibitive, particularly for professionals in emerging markets. In response, The ESG Institute launched a global initiative delivering free training through two flagship programmes: the Certificate in ESG Reporting and the Foundation Certificate in Sustainable Technology. Over the past 12 months, the initiative has trained more than 9,000 professionals across over 100 countries, equipping participants with practical knowledge in ESG frameworks, reporting, double materiality, and the role of technology in sustainability. Participants are also invited to join a global Alumni community, enabling ongoing collaboration, knowledge exchange, and engagement with sustainability experts. This creates a continuous learning ecosystem rather than a one-time intervention. The initiative demonstrates how removing cost and time barriers enables underserved professionals to upskill and immediately apply ESG knowledge within their organisations, creating a multiplier effect across business practices and sustainability outcomes globally.
