Being Nature Positive in the heart of Dublin City

Finalist, Nature Positive

About

Trinity College Dublin is located at the historic heart of Dublin City at College Green. Its campus serves as a green oasis, attracting students, staff, tourists, and local communities to its green spaces. Beyond the city-centre campus, Trinity’s lands extend across more than 47 hectares, including hospital sites, sports facilities, protected woodland, areas along the River Liffey, and locations bordering the ecological corridor of the Grand Canal Dock, where nature thrives within an urban setting. Trinity recognises the importance of these green
spaces and natural resources and has set an ambitious target to become nature positive by 2030, with the aim to conserve, manage and restore at least 30% of Trinity’s land area for nature, with emphasis on areas of particular importance for biodiversity and ecosystem functioning that deliver benefits and values to people, and contribute to conservation and restoration beyond Trinity’s grounds.

Top 3 learnings

1. We recognise that collaboration and co-operation are critical if we are to achieve our target.

2. We understand that training and education are fundamental for biodiversity literacy.

3. Our community is diverse and is made up of all those who study, work and visit Trinity.

SDGs

15- Life on land
