Centurion University has developed the Centurion University Climate Action Framework (CUCAF), a whole-institution strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2035 (Scope 1 & 2) and full neutrality by 2040. The framework integrates renewable energy expansion, smart infrastructure, climate-resilient agriculture, and circular resource systems. Low-carbon energy share has increased from 48.07% in 2019 to 54.94% in 2024, with projections reaching 60% by 2028. The university has established a robust Measurement and Verification (M&V) system that integrates real-time monitoring of energy and water usage through smart meters and flow measurement systems. CUCAF combines mitigation (solar, efficiency, EV transition) with adaptation (climate-resilient agriculture, disaster preparedness). The initiative is embedded into curriculum, research, and community engagement, benefiting over 5000 students and local stakeholders. Designed as a scalable model, CUCAF demonstrates how higher education institutions can implement measurable, data-driven pathways toward net-zero aligned with SDG 13.

Winning the International Green Gown Award for 2030 Climate Action would be a profound recognition of Centurion University’s commitment to demonstrating that climate action is not an isolated initiative but a defining responsibility of higher education. It would affirm our belief that universities must lead by example, embedding sustainability into governance, education, research, campus operations and community engagement to create measurable, lasting impact. This recognition would validate the Centurion University Climate Action Framework (CUCAF) as a whole-institution model that combines scientific evidence, innovation and collaborative leadership to accelerate the transition towards Net Zero. It would acknowledge the dedication of our students, faculty, professional staff, industry partners, government agencies and local communities who have worked together to transform our campuses into living laboratories for climate solutions. Winning would strengthen our capacity to expand renewable energy, digital carbon monitoring, circular bioeconomy initiatives and climate-resilient infrastructure, while accelerating progress towards our commitment of Net Zero (Scope 1 & 2) by 2035 and full carbon neutrality by 2040. It would also enhance our ability to build global partnerships, influence institutional climate policy and support other universities in developing practical, evidence-based pathways to decarbonisation. Most importantly, this award would reinforce our conviction that climate leadership extends beyond reducing emissions—it is about empowering people, strengthening communities and safeguarding the future for generations to come. For Centurion University, winning would not mark the completion of our climate journey; it would strengthen our responsibility to lead, innovate and inspire collective climate action across the higher education sector and beyond.

The Judges were impressed by the university’s institution-wide approach and Climate Action Framework with clear targets, measurement and verification system and quantified outcomes. Good progress is evident in climate resilience, curriculum and research integration and exceptional community reach has been achieved.
