Green Jobs Taskforce Report

'Green' skills are not just vocational and adult skills, so we need to make sure that this report gets circulated to FE & HE and more overt messaging is made clear to university leaders that it is their curricula which needs to catch up and deliver future-oriented, net zero and circular thinking employees for every job in the economy.
The Green Jobs Taskforce published its report, issuing a call to action on how the UK can deliver a green industrial revolution with government, business and the education sector working together. Some of the key recommendations include:
  • publishing a detailed Net Zero Strategy and using policy to promote good green jobs, skills and competitive supply chains;
  • industry, the education sector and the UK government working together to ensure green careers advice and pathways into good green jobs;
  • building on the UK government’s skills reforms to support people to work in the new green economy

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Education convened this Taskforce of 17 individuals from diverse backgrounds in industry, academia, unions, and the education and skills sector to come together to advise government, industry and the education sector.

In response to the release of this report, Iain Patton - CEO at EAUC said:

The BEIS and DfE convened Green Jobs Taskforce report is encouraging but we need to ensure that barely mentioned universities are clear of their critical role. 'Green' skills are not just vocational and adult skills, so we need to make sure that this report gets circulated to FE & HE and more overt messaging is made clear to university leaders that it is their curricula which needs to catch up and deliver future-oriented, net zero and circular thinking employees for every job in the economy.

It is understood that the government will now consider the Taskforce’s rich evidence base and comprehensive recommendations ahead of setting out the Net Zero Strategy later in the year which we will follow closely.
