Energy and Sustainability Technician - University of Warwick

The University of Warwick is a progressive and forward-thinking establishment. Committed to delivering the most exceptional educational environment for our students, we lead by example. That means we establish and update the types of processes and procedures across the university that are commensurate with our industry-leading reputation, extending to how we operate and manage our estate. Now, having set ambitious energy and carbon-saving targets within our University 2030 masterplan, we are determined to meet these goals – and it is here that you will find a career-defining opportunity.

Taking responsibility for identifying efficiency improvements that could be made across the campus, you will come up with innovative solutions and present your findings to the Sustainability Engineer in the form of comprehensive and well-researched reports that identify benefits, costs, risks and constraints. Making the most of a wide range of energy transfer and delivery systems, you will suggest the technical changes that need to happen, and the most suitable software for bringing your ideas to life. Each day will present you with new challenges such as assessing laboratory variable air volume systems, and will extend from monitoring and conducting forensic analysis of a significant and complex Building Energy Management System, through to supporting the implementation of accurate metering infrastructure. This role will require great communication skills, as you will be working in partnership with the Data Analyst to define improved methods of attaining and analysing data. You will also be comfortable working both proactively and reactively, as while much of your work will involve planned assessments, you will support our operational teams in ensuring services are maintaining their efficiency.

We are therefore looking for a true team-player, with plenty of ambition and the capacity to manage your own workload. With an HNC, degree or professional qualification in a relevant engineering services discipline, you will ideally hold membership of a professional body. More importantly, you will have a comprehensive technical knowledge of efficiency and energy conservation improvement in energy systems within multi-serviced buildings. With the scope to take on complex engineering challenges, you will be well-versed in building services technology and operation, underpinned by a good awareness of health and safety legislation. As a highly analytical individual with great problem-solving skills, you will be able to assess the financial implications of your recommendations, and you will need to have solid writing and IT capabilities.

This is an exceptional opportunity to explore your capabilities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. As you will be making recommendations for both the near and long-term future, this is a role in which you will witness your suggestions transforming the campus. With plenty of scope to further your knowledge, we will encourage you to take up training and development opportunities, so there really is no saying what the future holds for you and your career. Join us, and do something exceptional with your skills.
