Universities That Count Working Lunch - FREE

Tuesday 23 June 2009 - 11:00 – 13:30

80 universities will report on Corporate Responsibility in 2010 – be sure to be one of them!

A free session for all current Universities that Count (UTC) participants and anyone who is considering taking part next year. Join the UTC team for a first look at the results emerging from the HE sector's own Corporate Responsibility benchmarking programme, and contribute to the discussions on how to make UTC even better for the future. If you're one of the many considering joining in for next year, this session will give an overview of the scheme, and outline the performance improvement benefits of taking part.

The Best of 2008 Green Gown Award Master Class

‘The Secrets of Our Success’

This is your opportunity to hear from previous winners, including leading experts, on how they reached the top. The event will focus on four themes - Campus, Curriculum, Leadership and Community.

8 institutions that were recognized for their sustainability excellence in 2008 will be presenting and this will be your chance to hear the secrets of their success and ask those all important questions!

Themed Workshops

Delegates will choose two themed workshops out of the four below.

1st Session

Campus

This workshop will focus on greening your campus. About the physical, practical things institutions can do to reduce their carbon footprint and to improve environmental performance of buildings and estates. With presentations from Derek Mitchell, University of Dundee - Winners of Energy and Water Efficiency category - 'University of Dundee proves you can get something from nothing!' and Derry Caleb, University of Surrey - Highly Commended in Sustainable Construction category - 'Refurbishment saves energy, convenience and cost'.

Community

This workshop will focus on what students and communities can do to change behaviours and encourage more sustainable practices within our everyday lives. With presentations from Dilys Williams, London College of Fashion, University of Arts London - Winner of Social Responsibility category - 'Accessorizing sustainability, African style, at London College of Fashion' and Tara Duncan, Durham University - Winner of Student Initiatives - ''SLAGS' live more sustainably in Durham'.

2nd Session

Curriculum

This workshop will focus on greening courses and how to embed sustainability into the curriculum and beyond! With presentations from Esin Esat, Bedford College - Winner of Courses category - 'creating an environmentally aware workforce' and Rosemary Tomkinson & Bland Tomkinson, University of Manchester - Highly Commended Courses category - 'University of Manchester tackle complex environmental problems'.

Leadership

This workshop is very much about embedding sustainability into its core activities across the whole of the institution and taking cues from leaders in the field. With presentations from Daniella Tilbury, University of Gloucestershire - Winners of Continuous Improvement - Whole Institutions category with 'Sustainability is in its DNA!' and David Wood, Lancaster and Morecambe College - Winners of College category - 'Lancaster and Morecambe college inspires holistic change'.

Why not then come along to the the 2009 Green Gown Awards Ceremony which will start from 18:00 with welcome drinks and guests will sit down to dinner at 19:00.

To register for the Master Class please complete the booking form below (one per person). Payment can be made online or an invoice can be requested on submission of a booking form. If you wish to attend the Awards ceremony and Master Class a combined ticket can be purchased.
