SORTED expands its case study tool kit
Posted on 5 August 2008
SORTED, the Sustainability Online Resource and Toolkit for Education funded by the Learning Skills Council (LSC), is expanding its popular case study sections with five more useful stories from real life colleges in real life situations.
These case studies are the first part of an important new chapter in the ongoing development of SORTED, and cover a wide range of important issues that face many further education (FE) providers across the UK, from creating sustainability policies and procurement to staff/student engagement and integrating sustainability into the whole curriculum.
Each document takes the reader through the initial idea/problem and the approach the institution took, through to the outcomes and the invaluable lessons learnt. Each case study also includes useful links for further information.
Iain Patton, Executive Director of the EAUC, said: “These case studies provide the reader real solutions to the problems faced by many colleges and other FE providers today. Many people may feel they are the only ones facing a particular problem or with a particular idea, but these documents show that there are others out there in the same situation.
“They are a very useful tool for colleges as they provide a tried and tested method. And, most importantly, they highlight the possible pitfalls to help you avoid making the same mistakes!”
The five new case studies are just one batch in a series of more than 20 documents that will be added to the website shortly. They can be found by clicking on the relevant subject area of interest and selecting ‘case studies’.
However the EAUC is always on the look out for interesting and useful case studies, particularly adult and work-based learning stories, to put on the SORTED site. So, if there is something you would like to know about that you can’t find, or if you have been through an interesting sustainability-related project or situation that you feel would make a useful case study, please don’t hesitate to contact Abbie Weaver by clicking here or telephone the EAUC office on 01242 714 321.
The five new case studies added to SORTED are:
• Securing Sustainability at Worcester College of Technology
• ‘Community-Campus’ – Learner Involvement at Wiltshire College
• Developing a Sustainability Policy at Sparsholt College
• Sustainability Suits Southwark College
• Cleaning up your impact at Castle College, Nottingham
