To harness the opportunities presented by environmental improvements to buildings, the government has introduced tougher standards such as the revisions to Part L of the Building Regulations in April 2006, which raised overall energy efficiency standards for both new build and refurbishment.
Implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive: Energy certification based on accredited processes will be required on all non-domestic buildings with a floor area in excess of 1,000 m2. Public buildings will also have to display their energy certificate and have it updated at least once every ten years.
