Introduction
Energy is used in educational buildings for teaching, research, support and residential purposes. Energy is needed for heating and (increasingly) for cooling, for hot water and for electricity.
Energy is one of the largest controllable costs for most of the buildings within the FE system. There is usually considerable scope for reducing expenditure on energy by reducing unnecessary energy use throughout the building(s). There may also be opportunities to invest in new energy technologies by supporting the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology markets.
