Green House Think Tank
Green House is a green think tank, founded in 2011. Its primary aim is to lead the development of green thinking in the UK. It does so primarily by publishing for free download reports on green topics, and also by holding events, running a website including shorter pieces or gases on topical subjects, intervening in media debates and maintaining a supporters’ network.

Event details

This book challenges the almost universal assumption that it is bad news when the economy doesn’t grow. For decades it has been clear to some that continued economic growth is in conflict with other social and political goals: not just with environmental protection and ecological sustainability, but also with social justice, political stability and democracy. Yet our economic and political elites have simply ignored this growing evidence, and continue to treat economic growth as the overriding goal of all political and economic activity.

The book's authors argue that we have to recognize that the era of endless economic growth is over for developed countries, and to plan for a managed transition to a post-growth society. This offers an opportunity for us to address some of the fundamental problems of our societies which have been so far ignored. What matters is quality, not quantity - a better life based on less stuff, less stress and less work. Such a way of life will emphasize and engender well-being, community, security, and ‘conviviality’ - more real wealth.
