At this time of organisational ambition and transformation, we are seeking dedicated members to join our Board of Trustees to help us deliver our strategy. Our powerful 5 year strategy (2017-2021) was borne out of a collaboration with our 5000 education sector members. It demonstrates how we can better support our members to inspire, challenge and enable students, staff and sector leaders to position sustainability at the heart of each institution’s core strategy. Our role is to lead and support members to embed sustainability within education, across curricula, campuses and communities, but we now also work to help embed education within the wider global sustainable development movement.

Our continued success will draw on the strength and diverse skills of our Board of Trustees: maintaining its balance of knowledge and experience from across the university, college and learning and skills sector is essential to our future success. We now have a vacancy for TWO new Board members.

The Board of Trustees contributes to the development of strategy and oversees its delivery by the CEO and our staff. All applicants will have a passion for and commitment to our cause. We need experienced, top calibre Trustees who reflect the diversity of our sector and will provide the energy, expertise and experience our high profile, ambitious charity requires.

In our Trustees we value the broader perspective of out of sector and previous Board experience. Against the new Strategic Plan, the Board’s People and Performance Sub-Committee has reviewed the skills and experience of the current Board membership. As a result the Sub-Committee has forwarded its recommendations to the Board who approve the skills and experience we now wish to recruit.

We are now, in particular, seeking nominations for one vacancy from:
  • People in academic leadership – e.g. Academic engaging with sustainability as part of their disciplinary or cross disciplinary area or curriculum development or management function
Plus

We are now, in particular, seeking nominations for one vacancy from:
  • People in Senior Management level (such as Vice Chancellor/Principal, Pro/Deputy Vice Chancellor/Principal or Dean of Faculty as minimum level)
Being a Trustee brings great networking opportunities and enjoyment. It is important that are able to attend the forthcoming Board Meetings:
  • 24 & 25 September 2018 – Strategic Residential Meeting, Birmingham
  • 3 December 2018 – Strategic Meeting, London

The Board has the power to appoint a Trustee in between AGM’s. Any Trustee’s that are appointed in this way are only appointed until the AGM following their co-option. Andrew Hewitt resigned on 8 June 2017 and the Board co-opted David Duncan, University of Glasgow Chief Operating Officer and University Secretary, as Treasurer on 27 July 2017. The Board is therefore recommending David Duncan’s appointment to the Board for member approval at the AGM.

Further information and an application form are below. Deadline for submission is 2 May 2018. All eligible applications will be put to Member vote via online voting which will open on 23 May 2018 and close on 13 June 2018 and in person at the AGM on 20 June 2018 at Keele University.
