Ofsted's Talisman magazine - Green Issues in Education

The June edition of Ofsted’s Talisman magazine tries to encourage national agencies, government departments and providers in the FE sector to work together to improve and embed sustainable development in education.
The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is transforming the Further Education (FE) system for England. Since the launch of its sustainable development strategy in 2005, more and more providers have begun to incorporate sustainability principles and practices into decision-making and, in some cases, into curricula.
Ofsted recognises this trend with the latest issue of its magazine (Talisman, Issue 67, June 2008): a special edition focusing on “Green Issues in Education”. Included in the magazine are articles demonstrating how learning providers can have a key role to play in the search for a more sustainable world - “Teachers touch around one third of the population…In one year they will reach 18 million students”.
The June edition of Talisman profiles a range of colleges which won prestigious Green Gown Award for their innovative achievements in sustainable development. By giving examples of excellent practice, the FE community can take away ideas which can be adapted and developed until they become their own. As could be expected, other articles focus on the power of education for sustainable development on global society. “There is an impressive potential for teachers to influence on a scale that extends beyond the organisation: the multiplier effect”.
