LiFE Tips

LiFE is a planning and self-assessment tool specifically for colleges and universities to improve social responsibility and environmental performance through a whole institution approach. Find out more here.

Please find some useful tips below on LiFE and how it can be used to benefit other areas of your membership:

LiFE tip: Our regional groups and Communities of Practice are ideal forums to share ideas, insight and practices that can help you progress in LiFE, if you’re using it to plan and self-assess your sustainability performance. If you're focusing on a particular Framework and would like to start a new group, please get in touch.

LiFE tip: Use the diagram of an Introduction to LiFE (page 2) as an engagement tool to demonstrate what should be included in a ‘whole institution’ approach to sustainability.

LiFE tip: If you're using LiFE, make sure you add the introduction to sustainability elearning module as evidence of 'Training and Support' or 'Stakeholder Engagement'.

LiFE tip: The Educational Members' Network is an ideal forum to share ideas, insight and practices that can help you progress in LiFE, if you’re using it to plan and self-assess your sustainability performance.

LiFE tip: Tailor your approach - take one Priority Area or Framework at a time or facilitate a truly ‘whole-institution’ approach.

LiFE tip: Take your time - there are no deadlines, no rules. Simply use the tool your own way and only set timescales when you’re ready and to fit into wider plans.

LiFE tip: Start your journey with LiFE - if you’re just starting out, LiFE can help you to build momentum giving you a clear path to progress.
