What is Green Impact Universities and Colleges?Green Impact Universities and Colleges is a very successful environmental accreditation scheme that is currently run in higher and further education institutions and is delivered by NUS in partnership with the EAUC.
In 2010/11 the scheme was delivered in 600 departments, reaching over 36,000 staff. Green Impact encourages pro-environmental behaviours amongst staff within a university or college. It empowers sustainability champions within their workplace, helping them gain recognition for their environmental efforts, whilst playing on the competitive spirit of staff working in teams. It provides people and their departments with a tangible framework for improving their environmental performance, breaking down complex environmental issues into more manageable bite-sized chunks. The project has achieved measurable behaviour change, with swings of up to 15%.
Also, in 2011/12, Green Impact worked with 105 Students Unions alongside 46 Universities and Colleges (reaching over 44,000 staff members). It is looking to expand into the wider community in the year ahead - taking the Green Impact model into five Local Authorities and five NHS Trusts.
