EAUC are pleased to announce their involvement in Green Campus Week. A new initiative highlighting how universities are making an environmental difference in Britain and America

The Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement (HEEPI) is organising a ‘green campus’ week in June, with presentations on current best practice and future needs. These include ones on:
  • Current UK initiatives, including 2007 Green Gown Award winning projects at King’s College, and Leeds and Southampton Universities
  • The pioneering Harvard University Green Campus Initiative
  • Strategic change for sustainability – how to achieve it, and how financial and other barriers can be overcome.

The events are being held in collaboration with sector organisations such as AUDE, EAUC and the Leadership Foundation.

According to HEEPI Co-Director, Professor Peter James, “regulations, high energy prices and public expectations are already requiring universities to raise their game, and become greener. A new pressure will be public ranking of performance, assisted by recent successful requests under the Freedom of Information Act to make confidential data on energy consumption and other issues publicly available. This will be just one of the areas where Harvard – which was recently given a top (A-) rating in a US performance ranking – will provide useful insights for UK universities.”

The main events of Green Campus week are:

  • EcoverCity: Education. Architecture. Regeneration, with a particular focus on the role of higher education in creating sustainable cities – University of Bradford, 19 June
  • Green Futures for Old Buildings: Sustainable Refurbishment of the HE Estate – King’s College, London, 20 June - FREE TO EAUC MEMBERS
  • Strategic Sustainability: Transforming Green Rhetoric into Gritty Reality – Leadership Foundation, London, 21 June
  • Creating Green Gold: How to Finance Energy and Environmental Improvement in HE – London, 22 June - FREE TO EAUC MEMBERS
