Education for Sustainability
It is easy to assume that a college or university’s key impacts are in the energy or water it uses or the waste paper it produces. These are of course significant, but pale against the colossal impact of the future working and private lives of the thousands of students which pass through the institution. The EAUC champions a whole institutional approach to sustainability where every building, purchase and procedure is designed to complement and add value to staff and student teaching and learning.
The EAUC is committed to encouraging the integration of Education for Sustainability across the further and higher education curriculum in ways which link teaching, estate management, and the wider ecosystems that staff, students and local communities are part of.
In line with the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), the EAUC has launched the Education for Sustainability Group. The group is chaired by Arran Stibbe from the University of Gloucestershire, and has the following aims:
- to provide a space where ideas, guides, examples of good practice and other resources on Education for Sustainability can be shared
- to provide a network where academic staff, estate management staff and community liaison staff can co-operate in the development of good practice in Education for Sustainability
All members of staff of higher/further education institutions which are members of the EAUC are welcome to join the group. For more information please email info@eauc.org.uk
