Cambridge Regional College's ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint has enabled it to gain renewal of its ISO 14001 certification - a recognition of its outstanding practice in energy-saving management.

The college has installed LED lighting throughout its buildings – saving £100,000 a year, in addition to its biomass boilers, rainwater harvesting system, solar panels and other various technologies it uses.

Deputy Principal Alan Jones commented on the ISO accreditation:

“We are one of just a handful of FE colleges in the country to be recognised in this way for our commitment to saving energy across every area of the college, from energy management to monitors that automatically switch off.

We have introduced energy-saving measures in all our faculties and encouraged students to be very aware of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. Even small things can make a big difference – from microfibre towels in our hair and beauty salons to buying food locally in our restaurant.”
